This Privacy Policy explains what information Curiosity Trail (“we”, “us”, curiositytrail.com) collects when you visit the site, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Information you send us. If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply.
- Technical information. Like most websites, our server and security tools record standard information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Our site and the third-party services described below may set cookies or use similar technologies.
Third-party services
We use or link to third-party services that may collect information about you under their own privacy policies:
- Advertising from Google AdSense and Amazon, which may use cookies to show ads and measure performance. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, these are only used after you consent (see below).
- Affiliate partners. We work with affiliate partners including Amazon Associates, Skyscanner, GetYourGuide and Viator. For hotel bookings, our links to Booking.com or Hotels.com go through the CJ affiliate network. Each guide links to one of these hotel partners, not both. When you click one of these links you are briefly redirected through CJ’s tracking servers (for example tkqlhce.com, anrdoezrs.net, dotomi.com and emjcd.com) before you reach the booking site. During that redirect CJ may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and receive your IP address, browser type and the page you came from, so that a booking can be credited to us. For Hotels.com links the redirect also passes through Button (r.bttn.io), a link-routing service that may receive your IP address, device and browser information and the page you came from, and may set its own cookies or identifiers; Button’s privacy policy applies. Our own pages do not load any CJ or Button scripts; this happens only after you click. These cookies are set by CJ and the booking partner, which we do not control, and their own privacy policies apply. Amazon Associates, GetYourGuide and Viator may also set a cookie when you click their links.
- Search performance tools such as Google Search Console, which give us aggregated information about how people find the site.
- Fonts served from Google Fonts.
- Social platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, if you follow links from our site to them.
We do not control these third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.
How we use information
- To respond to messages you send us.
- To operate, secure and improve the site and its content.
- To measure which guides are useful and how visitors find them.
- To earn revenue through advertising and affiliate programs that support the site.
Your choices
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- You can block third-party cookies in your browser settings or use the privacy choices CJ offers (access, delete or do-not-sell requests) on CJ’s Your Privacy Choices page. CJ’s own privacy notice is at cj.com/legal/privacy-policy-services. For Hotels.com links, you can ask Button to opt you out of its cookies (other than strictly necessary ones) by emailing privacy@usebutton.com; see Button’s privacy policy.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out at optout.aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- You can ask us to delete a message you sent through the contact form by emailing us through our contact page.
Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland
If you visit from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising and similar technologies that use cookies or other device identifiers are used. A consent message provided through Google’s consent management tools appears on your first visit. You can accept, decline, or manage your options there. Hotel links that pass through the CJ network (and, for Hotels.com, Button, described above) set cookies only after you choose to click them; if you prefer not to be tracked this way, you can search for the hotel directly on the booking site instead of using our link.
- Changing your mind. You can review or withdraw your consent at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
- Legal basis. We rely on your consent for advertising cookies and similar technologies, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for basic technical logs.
- Your rights. You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent without affecting earlier processing. Use our contact page to make a request.
- Complaints. You can complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.
- International transfers. Our advertising and affiliate partners, including Google and Amazon, are based in the United States and may process data there under their own safeguards and policies.
Children
Curiosity Trail is a general-audience travel site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
